Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s day!! I’m hoping you’re having a great day, we are freezing here but that won’t stop us from celebrating!! We started our day with an avocado toast, smoked sausage and fruit, of course the toast had a heart-shaped over easy egg in the middle, I’ve been seeing these heart-shaped toasts on Pinterest for a while and thought today was a good day to try them.

My hubby surprised me with Godiva chocolate truffles and flowers, two of my favorite things in the whole world!! Godiva chocolate truffles may be a little pricey but they are totally worth it. I gave him his present yesterday, it was impossible to make it a surprise since our apartment smelled like chocolate heaven, I baked him English toffee and sea salt brownies, we’re having a sugar overload this weekend but it’s ok, it’s Valentine’s!!

You’ll need 1/2 cup of butter, 1 cup of white sugar, 2 eggs, 1 tsp of vanilla extract, 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/4 tsp of salt, 1/4 tsp of baking powder, 3/4 cup of Heath bits and 1 tsp of sea salt.

The secret for chewy brownies is mixing everything by hand, that way you won’t overmix the eggs and the batter won’t get too much air. Let’s start! Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan, I like to use the remaining butter stuck to the paper wrap to grease my pans, that way you don’t waste anything!!

greasedpan

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. In a pan or a dutch oven melt the butter over medium high. Remove from heat and add 1 tsp of vanilla extract,1 cup of sugar.

step1

Add 2 eggs and stir quickly before the eggs start to cook. Follow with 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder and blend.

step2

Then add 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of baking powder and gently fold. Finally add 3/4 cup of Heath bits.

step3

Pour batter into prepared pan and tap it against the counter a couple of times to spread evenly the batter. Sprinkle with 1 tsp of sea salt.

step4

Bake for 25-30 minutes in preheated oven or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Let it cool for 10 minutes, cut and enjoy!!!
